This regular co-operation began in 1973. Since then there have been annual conferences. The co-operation began as Scandinavian Defence Estates with participation from Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. From 1994 Finland joined the co-operation, and the name was changed to Nordic Defence Estates. The Baltic countries were invited as observers to the annual conference in 2008. Today Estonia, Latvia and Latvia participated.
The aim of the co-operation is to give informtion to each other, and exchange experiences in order to learn from each other and become better to service the Defence. Experience has shown that there is a major efficiency potential in the co-operation between these organizations which have fairly similar jobs and framework conditions in many areas.
